As per the NYSED website, the goal has been to make sure that Rachael understands the concepts of and becomes proficient with the skills of mathematics, communicates and reasons mathematically,
and is able to solve problems using appropriate tools and strategies through the integrated study of number sense and operations,
algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability.
Rachael has also used the Math Standards CD rom, Saxon Math program and Thomson Peterson's PSAT
math review study guide this quarter. Grade: 2 (G)
Reading: In addition to reading her magazines (Highlights,
American Girl, National Geographic), her "free reading" chapter books, Rachael has been studying Thomson Peterson's PSAT guide
(critical reading, questions, strategies, and exercises) Grade: 4 (E)
Spelling: Rachael has corrected any mispelled words
in her typing and writing assignments, and has participated in spelling games and contests with her siblings. Grade:
4 (E)
Writing, Grammar & Language Arts: This quarter Rachael
studied the Writing Skills portion of the Thompson Peterson's PSAT study guide in order to measure her "ability to identify
errors in usage and structure, to recognize sentences that are correctly written in standard English, and to make choices
about improving the logic, coherence, and organization of faulty paragraphs" Grade: 4 (E)
Health & Safety: Unfortunately the children had
a first-hand lesson in the misery of contracting scabies, which is a parasitic mite that burrows under the skin. This affliction
lasted for over five weeks, during which time the children became personally acquainted with the healing and antibacterial
properties of Melaleuca Tea Tree Oil, the soothing properties of Aveeno Oatmeal Baths, and how diligent one must
be in cleaning and laundering in order to be cured of scabies. The children researched the life cycle of this mite and
watched an educational documentary on this topic. Grade: 4 (E)
History: Aztec Pyramid of Death, frequent
discussion of this year's Democratic and Republican Presidential nominees, super-delegates, delegates, electoral voting,
essential differences between the parties, the GOP, etc. Grade: 3 (G)
Science: Endangered Parks, Science Crafts and
Experiments demonstrating air presssure, displacement of mass, changes in volume, episodes of Naked Science Grade:
3 (G)
Art: Rachael has made many charcoal,pencil and
ink drawings Grade: 4 (E)
Music: Rachael practices guitar, piano and violin

Physical Education: Rachael went sledding, exercised
on the total gym and went for walks Grade: 4 (E)
Typing & Computer: Rachael's typing skills rival

Teacher Comments - 2nd Quarter
Despite how miserable this quarter was healthwise for Rachael, she managed to pursue her various
academic, artistic and musical interests. She is a natural student and a daughter to be very proud of.
